The session

About this session

AI code assistants have become faster, more powerful and more deeply integrated into the way we build software. They can generate code, write documentation, create tests and accelerate development–but does that mean software architecture and experienced developers are becoming less important?

According to SAP Mentor Alisdair Templeton, the answer is no.

Drawing on his hands-on experience working with AI coding assistants, Alisdair argues that software architecture, engineering judgement and technical leadership are becoming even more important in an AI-assisted world. He'll explore practical approaches to grounding AI in proven engineering principles, keeping architects firmly in the loop, and ensuring AI-generated code supports–not undermines–long-term quality and Clean Core objectives.

You'll also discover how developers can work alongside AI to refine requirements, review outputs and delegate repetitive tasks such as documentation and testing, freeing them to focus on the work that matters most: designing resilient systems, solving business problems and making sound engineering decisions. Rather than asking whether AI will replace developers, this session explores how the role of the SAP developer is evolving–and the skills that will matter most in the years ahead.

What You'll Learn

  • How AI is changing the day-to-day role of SAP developers
  • Why software architecture and engineering judgement matter more in an AI-assisted world
